Obstacles for Effective Interviewing
It is quite easy for an interviewer to make mistakes in an employment interview. Some of the common mistakes in a poorly conducted interview are:
Failing to establish rapport with the applicant – usually the interview never gets off the ground and interaction becomes wooden.
Not knowing what information is needed – it follows that the interviewer fumbles for questions to ask of the applicant.
Concentrating on the applicant not on his qualifications – the objective is to compare the applicant’s abilities and experience to the needs of the position.
Not remaining silent or not listening – interviewer does most of the talking and fails to get meaningful information from the applicant.
